Driven by the trend of digitization, companies across industries are transforming their business processes by use of modern information systems und information technology. Therefore, this course introduces the field of information management to students of business sciences. Based upon the conceptual foundations of information systems, special emphasis is placed on the problem-oriented usage of state-of-the-art software products essential for business management across the value chain of modern companies.

- The role of information systems in business: definition, structure and types of information systems in business domains.
- Fundamentals of information technology: overview of the logical, mathematical and technical foundations of computer systems and networking.
- End user computing: Techniques of personal information management and spreadsheet applications to solve business problems.
- Data management: conceptual data modeling and usage of relational database management systems to cover business information demand.
- Process management: introduction to notations and software tools appropriate for modelling business processes.
