- Kurzbeschreibung
The chemical constitution of polymers, their general composition, their processing conditions and the final material properties are strongly interrelated. The focus of this module is the consolidation of knowledge of polymer chemistry and the acquisition of practical experience with analytical tools to investigate polymer composition and properties. After successful completion of the module the students will have theoretical and practical knowledge to plan, realize and evaluate laboratory experiments in the field of polymer chemistry and analytics.
- Lehrinhalte
- Laboratory experiments in the fields of:
- 1. Polymer synthesis (radical polymerization, polycondensation, polyaddition)
- 2. Molar mass determination
- 3. Infra-red spectroscopy
- 4. Thermal analysis (DSC, TGA)
- Lernergebnisse / Kompetenzziele
Wissensverbreiterung
The students who have successfully completed the module accomplished practical knowledge of polymer synthesis and analytical methods to characterize polymers with respect to their chemical structure, molar mass and thermal properties.
Wissensvertiefung
The students enlarge their theoretical knowledge in the fields of polymer chemistry and analytics by laboratory experiments. The students will be able to select appropriate experimental methods for the solution of problems related to polymer analytics. The student can evaluate the experimental data and can deduce general relations between chemical structure and properties.
K?nnen - instrumentale Kompetenz
The students who have successfully completed the module are able to apply different methods to solve analytical problems. The students are able to process data of laboratory experiments and to calculate relevant quantities and to discuss critical parameters.
K?nnen - kommunikative Kompetenz
The students who have successfully completed the module are able to present their experimental results and the deduced correlations in comprehensive laboratory protocols. The students are able give an oral presentation of their experimental results in English language.
K?nnen - systemische Kompetenz
The students can estimate the limits and advantages of different methods of polymer analytics. After the successful completion of the module the students will be able to apply the analytical tools for the solution of different unknown analytical problems in polymer chemistry.
