WIR are all the university
With more than 1,200 employees (as of December 2017), the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences is one of the major employers in the region. "We are all the university": This is one of the guiding principles of the position paper "Project 2023" (document only available in German) that was adopted in 2013 as a fundamental premise for the university. Since 2003, the university has been a public law foundation which also means that it has a high degree of autonomy in the field of personnel management.
The functioning interaction between teaching, research and the science-supportive areas is of great importance for the successful development of the university. In the past few years, the university has invested heavily in its Osnabrück and Lingen locations in order to build a modern infrastructure. This campus atmosphere and the also literally excellent cafeterias offer a pleasant working environment. To be a sought-after teaching, learning and research location, it is even of greater importance to be an attractive, enhancing and reliable employer for smart people with creative drive who are new to the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences or who are already firmly established.
The Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences places great importance on creating conditions in which employees can develop. These include the family-friendly university. The university must and wants to be measured by the implementation of its concept since receiving this certificate. Parameters for success are, for example, working time management of university employees or the transparency of the offers and activities for families. In this sense, the university family service advises, among others, caregiving relatives, shows ways of caring for children, or supports to create free development scopes in challenging family situations. In the Fingerhut Daycare as well as in the Villa, CampusKita and the Kleinen Strolche Daycare Centers, the university affiliation of parents is a criterion of space allocation.
In general, the following applies: The university provides part-time employment within the legal framework and offers very flexible work time organization models when possible. Employees benefit overall from the framework conditions of the public service including occupational pensions.
The Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences also provides many options for the health of employees. An ergonomic workplace consultation is among the offerings of the Institute of Applied Physiotherapy (INAPO).
The courses of the University Sports Center which are open to the employees of the University are among the wide range of sports offers. In the context of workplace health advancement, the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences also offers the opportunity to participate in the corporate fitness program "HanseFit".
Of course, staff development plays a major role for Lower Saxony's largest university of applied sciences. Academic staff development offers range from the strengthening of higher educational didactic competence to personality development to strengthening of advisory skills. The Center for Academic Staff Development for the science supportive staff is geared to this core statement: We want to convey the skills and competencies of employees at their work places which are needed to continuously develop further personally and consequently best to achieve the goals of the university. Regular leadership training and coaching offering, the introduction of feedback talks as well as offers for interdisciplinary continuing education and advanced training are part of the academic staff development at the university.
The Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences as a community is dependent on people who are innovative and want to remain curious for a lifetime. We therefore welcome employees and interested parties who bring cross-disciplinary and cross-professional expertise. The university promotes gender equality and human diversity. We want to increase the proportion of women in research and teaching. Also, we want more applicants with competencies in the fields of gender, diversity and family-friendliness.
