Compact Courses
Faculty of Business Management and Social Sciences
Compact Courses
Several students already have experience in a language, mathematics or accounting. If you want to brush up these skills before the placement test, you can participate in a compact course.
The compact courses take place before the semester begins. During this period, the following compact courses are offered:
- English compact course (Level 2) - only with corresponding number of registrations
- Mathematics compact course (german language only)
- Accounting compact course (german language only)
Business and Management, Business Administration in the healthcare sector and International Business and Management:
If you have very good prior knowledge in math (e.g. an advanced course) you do not need to take a prerequisite course. Registration for the Placement Test Mathematics is sufficient. In case of lower knowledge in mathematics, especially if the school years are longer ago, the compact course in mathematics should be taken.
If you have a lower level of English, the consumption of English-language media can already prepare you for the English placement test. As this has the purpose of assigning you to the correct level in our English courses during the semester. The Refresher English course is designed for students who have not studied the language for several years.
If there is no or only little knowledge of accounting, it is recommended to take the two-day Preliminary Accounting Course. A placement test does not have to be taken, but participation provides optimal preparation for the first semester lecture.
International Management:
If you have very good previous knowledge in math (e.g. an advanced course) you do not have to take a preliminary course. Registration for the Placement Test Mathematics is sufficient. In case of lower knowledge in mathematics, especially if the school has been completed some time ago, the compact course in mathematics should be taken as a precaution.
There is no obligation to take the English Placement Test.
Attending the Preliminary Accounting Course makes sense before the summer semester (second semester), since participation optimally prepares for the lecture in the summer semester.
Public management and business administration in the healthcare sector:
If you have very good prior knowledge of accounting (e.g. commercial training), a preliminary course is recommended, but this is not compulsory. For students with little or no prior knowledge of accounting, the semester-long preparatory course in accounting is recommended.
If you have little previous knowledge of English, consuming English-language media can prepare you for the English placement test. The purpose of this test is to place you at the correct level for our English courses during the semester. The English refresher course is designed for students who have not studied the language for several years.
Business Psychology:
If you have less prior knowledge of English, consuming English-language media can already prepare you for the English placement test. The purpose of this is to place you at the correct level for our English courses during the semester.
There is no need to take other placement tests or compact courses.
Business Law:
If you have lower prior knowledge of English, simply consuming English-language media can prepare you for the English placement test. As this has the purpose of assigning you to the correct level in our English courses during the semester. The English refresher course is designed for students who have not studied the language for several years.
If you have little or no knowledge of accounting, we recommend attending the two-day “Preliminary Accounting Course”. There is no need to take a placement test, but attending the course is the ideal preparation for the lecture in the first semester.
The English compact course includes about 60 hours. During this time, students work intensively to improve their English language skills. The course is primarily reserved for freshmen whose experience with the English language is not recent or who did not have an English grade better than satisfactory in school.
02.09.-13.09.2024, 10am-4pm, more information will follow
In the Mathematics compact course, students can brush up on the skills from their Abitur (university qualification) and specifically prepare for the placement test. The content of the mathematics placement test such as the basics of algebra, arithmetic, function theory and differential calculus including curve sketching are covered intensively.
To prepare, sample tests with the solutions are available to participants.

The Accounting compact course is for students with limited proficiency and aimed especially at freshmen. Students who have no knowledge of accounting, can participate in a semester-accompanying preparation course which will end with an exam, similar to the placement test. The compact course is aimed especially at those who have to pass the placement test before the start of the semester.
As part of the compact course, the content of the placement tests, the accounting and closing techniques, as well as the basics of cost and performance accounting are handled among other things, as part of the compact course.
The compact course is mostly aimed at students from:
- Public Management B.A. (otherwise: participation in semester-accompanying course in the first semester)
- Business Management in the Health Sector B.A. (otherwise: participation in semester-accompanying course in the first semester)
