Master of Science
Features of the degree program: Applied Poultry Sciences
The "Applied Poultry Science (M.Sc.)" Master's degree program is a part-time educational program that combines application-oriented research and development. The aim is to train and/or qualify urgently needed specialists and managers in the field of poultry management for the future production of high-quality, safe food in combination with animal welfare and environmental protection.
Specialists and managers in the poultry sector are responsible for the entire processes including economic, technical, personnel, social and ethical aspects and develop a corresponding problem awareness in the course of the degree program.
The degree program provides graduates with a high level of professional and leadership skills and qualifies them for all levels of management in the areas of poultry production, consulting, development and research. Optionally, there is the possibility to complete a doctoral program.
The profile of the Master's degree program is based on three characteristics:
- a sound basis in natural science education with a focus on poultry science at the level of complex production processes.
- the transfer-oriented and scientific reflection of the module contents in practice and experience of the world of the part-time students.
- the scientific orientation through the involvement of students in poultry-oriented research and development projects of the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences or a practical enterprise, which is practice-oriented, up-to-date and interdisciplinary.

Detailed Information
The Master's program is aimed at:
- B.Sc. graduates and M.Sc. graduates with degrees in agricultural sciences in Germany and abroad,
- specialists and managers in the poultry industry,
- career changers,
- graduates of thematically related degrees in engineering sciences, natural sciences, business administration or veterinary medicine from domestic and foreign universities,
- prospective students, in particular professionals who want to study in a Master's degree program while working after completing a degree in vocational education or training; this also includes people with discontinuous educational and professional biographies.
The completion of the Master's "Applied Poultry Science" degree program enables graduates to act proactively in accordance with the emerging development of framework conditions at the European and national level: e.g. Vo (EU), directives and regulations (EU), laws, ordinances, voluntary agreements, livestock strategies, sustainability guidelines, transparency of process quality. The study program provides graduates with a high level of professional and leadership skills and qualifies them for all levels of management in the areas of poultry production, consulting, development and research.
The continuous need for qualified knowledge results, among other things, from the Animal Welfare Act, which stipulates in §2 that "anyone who keeps, looks after or has to look after an animal [...] must have the knowledge and skills required for appropriate nutrition, care and behavioural accommodation of the animal." This is complemented in §11 by the fact that the required knowledge and skills must not only be acquired but also maintained.
For specialists and managers in the poultry sector it applies that they are responsible for the entire processes including economic, technical, personnel, social and ethical aspects and develop corresponding problem awareness during the course of the studies program. The transfer studies and the portfolio examinations in the compulsory modules are particularly suitable for this.
