- substrate properties and irrigation processes
- aging of substrates
Chemical and biochemical subtrates parameters: - chemical and biochemical features of growing media and their base material
- Fertilization of horticultural substrates
- changes of nutrient content during the storage of substrates
- fertilization management and pH control of growing media
- development and test of new substrate additives and fertilizers
Current problems in the subtrate industry, e.g.: - peat and peat substitutes - acquisition of base materials and additives

Students know the main features and analytical methods for the description of growing media

The students have additionally a broad special knowledge about practical relevant applications of analytical processes for the description of properties of growing media, especially with regard to new additives.
